30 March i went to see the dance and music performance Apart in Galerie Unter Berlin. It was in an old water supply under the ground in Prenzlauer Berg. A nice and atmospheric environment. The sound design of the performance was done live and really added something to the experience of the space where it was held.
I found it interesting more as an object of visual arts than as a dance performance. The dance was all made by improvisation and it was a pitty that it was not more than that. Just dancers improvising. It wasn’t going anywhere and not telling a story. But as visual objects the different settings were designed very well! I especially liked a woman sitting in a chair slowly getting covered in dust falling from the sealing. A sad image that makes you think about loneliness and getting older. Also the way the sound designer was staged got my attention. He was put behind a enlarging screen which gave a peculiar effect.
